Position Summary
Responsible for the efficient operation and day-to-day functionality of the Technical Services department including providing technical support and expertise to the Territory Sales Managers, industry and clients for the promotion and sale of concrete products in Ontario.
Responsibilities
- Directly manages one employee in the Technical Services Department and jointly with CBM, supervises 4 concrete quality laboratory employees (Manager and 3 technicians).
- Required overseeing and being the signing authority of the concrete laboratory ensuring conformance to the Canadian Council of Independent Laboratories (CCIL) on-going certification
- Responsible for the annual Technical Services budget including 50% funding of the concrete laboratory
- Provides technical assistance to customers with cement and concrete related issues
- To serve as a role model in the areas of leadership, teamwork, customer focus, continuous improvement, safety, and environmental stewardship to ensure alignment with the company’s vision and critical success factors.
- Implement quality control testing and quality control programs for customers (i.e., mix design enhancements).
- Promotes and protects cement and concrete products through high profile participation in industry association and specification committees as well as other related organizations.
- Performs testing of concrete and cement, examine and analyze various building systems where concrete may be used, and sample gathering for concrete, cementing materials and aggregates.
- Identifies internal cement quality improvements pertaining to customer needs.
- Manages special projects related to technical aspects of product development in assistance of marketing efforts.
- Monitors slag operation & quality of slag granules for production of ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBFS) at all St Marys locations supplied
- Managing operation of slag granulator at Nanticoke including inventory management, QC & Assessment
- Managing operating costs of Nanticoke granulator ($4M annually (includes repair/maintenance of equipment, CSSI labor, Stelco Royalties) > relates to 400,000 MT per year slag production)
- Managing Sub-Contractor CSSI (operation of granulator) and rate negotiating
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree (B. A.) in Engineering from university with minimum 5 years related experience.
- Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access.
- Professional Engineers (P.Eng.) accreditation
- American Concrete Institute (ACI) Certification (Grade I)
- Valid Ontario Driver's license as extensive travel to jobsites and various plants will be required.
