WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY?
The Sustainability Summer Student will support corporate and operational initiatives aimed at reducing energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions across the Cement, Aggregates, and Ready-Mix Businesses. This role blends research, data analysis, training development, and creative communication to help advance the company’s decarbonization strategy and strengthen its energy efficiency culture.
The position offers exposure to a range of industrial sustainability topics, including operational energy use, decarbonization pathways, behavioural change, and corporate engagement.
WHAT WILL YOU DO?
- Decarbonization Roadmap – Ready-Mix and Aggregates Businesses.
Support execution of the decarbonization roadmaps. Activities may include:
- Conduct and report on research, literature reviews, and benchmarking on technologies, operational best practices, and emerging policies related to decarbonization for the Ready‑Mix and Aggregates groups.
- Analyze energy, fuel, and emissions data from Ready‑Mix plants and Aggregate sites to identify reduction opportunities and support decision‑making.
- Employee Awareness, Motivation & Training
- Support the Corporate Energy Manager in creating training materials for the Cement group, with content adaptable for Aggregates and Ready‑Mix where applicable.
- Support the development and execution of site Energy Hunts.
WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED?
• Enrolled in an undergraduate engineering or environmental studies program (2nd year or higher preferred).
• Basic understanding of sustainability, climate change, and greenhouse gas emissions.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
• Strong analytical and critical‑thinking skills, including the ability to interpret simple data and identify trends.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate technical concepts into plain language.
• Ability to create clean, professional presentations.
• Effective research skills for reviewing and summarizing technical or academic information.
• Ability to work collaboratively with different teams and adapt to corporate or plant environments.
• Interest or basic awareness of energy‑efficiency concepts, decarbonization pathways, or GHG accounting.

Salary: $21.18/hour (Year 2 rate. Actual rate may vary depending on your current academic year)
Location: Toronto (We are also open to the student being based at any of our other locations, including Bowmanville, Aberfoyle, or St.Marys)
