WHAT IS THE OPPRTUNITY ?
The Corporate Health & Safety Graduate supports the coordination and implementation of corporate health and safety programs, standards, and initiatives across multiple sites and business functions. Working under the guidance of corporate health and safety leadership and in cooperation with the sites, this role provides reporting, documentation, communication, and project coordination support to help drive consistent implementation, regulatory alignment, and continuous improvement across the business. This position is intended to provide a recent graduate with structured development and practical experience in a corporate and industrial health and safety environment.
WHAT WILL YOU DO ?
Key Responsibilities:
- Support corporate health and safety reporting, administration, and coordination activities across multiple sites.
- Maintain safety data, reports, metrics, and documentation, including monthly summary reporting and follow-up tracking across North America.
- Assist with the rollout, communication, and follow-up of corporate health and safety initiatives, standards, campaigns, and improvement plans.
- Coordinate with site and corporate stakeholders to support safety training, industrial hygiene testing and medical exams, meetings, and related compliance activities.
- Support corporate corrective action tracking, audit preparation, and follow-up related to inspections and internal or external reviews.
- Support the administration of corporate health and safety systems and databases, including documentation, records management, and reporting support.
- Assist with the development and maintenance of safety communications, presentations, and program materials.
- Participate in corporate and site health and safety meetings and support action item tracking and follow-up.
- Research best practices and identify opportunities to improve consistency and effectiveness across the business.
- Support site visits and implementation follow-up to help reinforce corporate standards and local execution.
- Assist in the development, review, and maintenance of safety procedures and programs to support program effectiveness.
- Support Head Office Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) activities, including meetings, inspections and corrective actions tracking.
- Research safety best practices, tools, and software, and help identify opportunities for improvement.
WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED ?
- Communication: Demonstrates clear verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work effectively with employees across different sites, functions, and levels of the organization.
- Planning & Organization: Manages multiple priorities, maintains accurate records, and follows through on assigned tasks and deliverables in a timely manner.
- Analytical Thinking: Uses sound judgment to gather information, identify issues, and support problem-solving and continuous improvement activities.
- Collaboration: Works effectively with corporate and site stakeholders to support implementation of health and safety programs and initiatives.
- Technical Proficiency: Demonstrates proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Familiarity with Power BI and health and safety data systems is considered an asset.
- Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos. Ability to prepare clear written communications, reports, and supporting documentation. Ability to contribute to the development and revision of procedures, training materials, and related documents. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with various levels of personnel. As VCNA is an international organization, the ability to communicate in languages other than English is desirable but not required.
Education/Experience Requirements:
- Recent graduate within two (2) years of graduation in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health and Safety, Engineering, Science, or a related field.
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma from an accredited college, university, or technical program in a related discipline.
- Internship, co-op, summer student, or other practical experience in an industrial, multi-site, or safety-related environment is considered an asset.
- Demonstrated willingness to travel, collaborate with multiple sites, and support corporate initiatives under the guidance of health and safety leadership.
Other Requirements:
- Travel Requirement:
Frequent travel will be required but would not exceed 20%. Ability to travel to different locations with reliable transportation. A clean driving license is required. Additionally, occasional travel to the United States may be required. Therefore, a Passport will be required or will need to be obtained while employed with VCNA.
- Physical Demands:
Moderate physical activity is required, including prolonged walking, sitting, standing, climbing ladders and tall structures, sustained keyboarding for up to 50% of the workday, and the ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds.

- Occasional exposure to the elements while working on an industrial site, as well as other operational by-products such as dust, dirt, odors, noise, etc.

Location: Toronto
Salary Range: 63,000 - 73,000 CAD
