Job Purpose:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Draftsman to join our team at VCNA. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in our cement capital expenditure (CAPEX) projects, providing detailed equipment layouts, flow sheets, and other essential drafting services. This position requires a keen eye for detail, strong technical skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with various departments. This position will be part of the cement corporate team and will report directly to the Cement Capex Director.
Key Job Functions:
- Develop and prepare detailed equipment layouts, flow sheets, and other technical drawings for CAPEX projects.
- Collaborate with project engineers, managers, and other stakeholders to gather necessary information and ensure accuracy in drawings.
- Review and revise drawings based on feedback and project requirements.
- Ensure all drawings comply with industry standards and company guidelines.
- Maintain and update drawing databases and documentation.
- Provide technical support and guidance to project managers and other team members.
- Participate in project meetings and contribute to the planning and execution of CAPEX projects.
- Assist in the preparation of project documentation, including specifications, reports, and presentations.
Know How:
- Diploma or technical degree in Drafting, Engineering, or a related field or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience as a draftsman, preferably in the cement or heavy industrial sector.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or other relevant drafting software.
- Strong understanding of engineering principles and industry standards.
- Strong understanding of material handling technologies.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to travel to our plants in Canada and USA occasionally.
- Proficiency in English communication, both verbal and written, as well as strong interpersonal skills, is required.
- Experience with CAPEX projects and cement manufacturing is highly desirable.
Problem Solving:
This position demands advanced critical thinking and problem-solving abilities. The role benefits from extensive support through historical references, strategic frameworks, and collaboration with both plant-based and corporate technical teams. Additionally, the individual must closely adhere to the instructions provided by project managers to execute the necessary documentation accurately.
The problems faced will range from basic to very complex but conform to standard heavy industrial equipment.
Accountability:
This position will mostly follow specific instructions and requests from project managers. It will also have a fairly high participation in establishing new design, solutions or improvements. These will need to conform to corporate and company policies and regulations. All these will be validated and monitored by the various corporate capex project managers. This resource is going to be shared between the various corporate capex project managers.
