WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY

Summary and Job Scope:

 

Leads and directs the maintenance activities with respect to reliability within Maintenance Department. Administers all aspects of the planned maintenance activities and root cause analysis to determine action plans to improve reliability. Controls and continuously improves all condition based, predictive and maintenance inspections, their techniques, plans and execution. Directly supervises/manages the Predictive Maintenance Supervisor and Selective Inspection Technician.

•     Drives reliability improvements in the plant to achieve world class MTBF results.

•     Directs, supervises, and assigns duties to predictive maintenance supervisor and selective inspection technician. Participates in the rotating on-call list shared by other salary maintenance positions.

•     Updates existing plant maintenance and preventative maintenance systems; troubleshoots any equipment and/or machinery malfunctions to determine root cause(s) and develops corrective action plans to rectify the problems and improve reliability. Creates weekly and monthly plant equipment condition status reports.

•     Evaluates cost reduction opportunities.

•     Conducts technical reviews of vendors and contractors to ensure that they can provide the equipment, machinery, and/or required services.

•     Supervises and manages the predictive maintenance supervisor and selective inspection technician.

•     Ensures the safety of subordinates through enforcing safe work practices and providing motivation and effective communication.

•     Leads the continuous improvement of all operating equipment conditions.

•     Manages the continuous treatment in short, medium, and long term of equipment recognized as being in critical condition.

•     Participates in and promotes maintenance cost saving initiatives to constantly improve maintenance spend and budget development.

•     Supervises and directs maintenance contractors working on the plant site as required.

•     Ensures contractor’s time is being managed.

•     Ensures quality work by field verification.

•     Participates and contributes to scheduled maintenance meetings and initiatives.

•     Works towards the continuous improvement of maintenance KPIs.

•     Provides detailed feedback regarding equipment condition and reliability improvements.

•     Ensures that all technical training and development requirements are met for subordinates.

•     Provides recognition and follow-up on suggestions and ideas.

•     Provides constructive feedback to maintain a high level of professionalism.

•     Provides solutions to problems with employee performance such as absenteeism, discipline, etc.

•     Administers the Collective Bargaining Agreement (if applicable) as it pertains to subordinates.

•     Administers disciplinary action as required.

•     Reviews individual performance with each subordinate.

•     Conducts toolbox/tailgate safety talks.

•     Manages vacation schedule prior to plant management approval.

•     Ensures that technical specifications and special instructions are available to craftsmen for assigned jobs.

•     Ensures that technical specifications are understood and adhered to by the craftsmen.

•     Participates in Daily and Weekly Planning Meetings.

•     Provides input to Maintenance Planner to set job priorities.

•     Provides technical assistance to operation groups.

•     Maintains accountability of company owned tools.

The role operates with a reasonable degree of autonomy while requiring regular engagement with plant operations due to the nature of the work. This involvement is essential to achieving desired plant outcomes. The role is highly supportive of other positions within the plant organization.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

Education/Experience Requirements:

University Degree in Mechanical Engineering or other similar field of Maintenance would be beneficial

A minimum of 5 years’ cement experience in a large manufacturing facility

 

Language skills:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Strong communication and presentation skills and the ability to effectively interact with all levels of management

 

Mathematical skills:

Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.  Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

 

Reasoning skills:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

 

Computer skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of SAP, GPD, PI, AutoCAD Manufacturing software; Sigga, Coupa, Excel Spreadsheet software; Word Processing software; MS Project; MS PowerPoint; Access, and command data.
