Summary/Job Scope:

 

The Production Shift Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the production floor during a specific shift. This role ensures that production targets are met, quality standards are maintained, and safety protocols are followed. The Production Shift Supervisor will lead, manage, and support the production team, ensuring efficient and effective operations while adhering to company policies and industry regulations.

  • Achieves production, quality, environmental, safety and efficiency goals.  Acts as liaison with other departments when other staff is not present.
  • May be asked to fulfill the responsibilities and duties of another Production Supervisor, during time periods of their absence due to vacation or personal leave time.
  • Troubleshoots process and equipment problems to improve operation and material flow.
  • Identifies and lists order of importance for clean-up efforts and develops solutions for perpetual clean up issues.
  • Report on any safety or environmental issues.  Solve the problems or address them by work order.

 

Production Oversight

  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of the production team during the assigned shift, ensuring production goals, quality standards, and timelines are met.
  • Monitor production processes, ensure all equipment is functioning properly, and intervene as needed to troubleshoot and resolve any issues that arise.
  • Ensure that all production lines are properly staffed, with adequate resources and materials available to meet production targets.

 

Team Management and Leadership

  • Lead, motivate, and manage a team of production workers, providing direction, guidance, and support to ensure high productivity and morale.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews, provide feedback, coaching, and development opportunities for team members.
  • Ensure that all team members are properly trained in production processes, safety procedures, and equipment operation.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment, encouraging teamwork and continuous improvement.

 

Quality Control and Safety

  • Monitor production processes to ensure that products meet established quality standards, and take corrective actions as needed to address any deviations.
  • Implement and enforce safety protocols to maintain a safe working environment and reduce the risk of accidents or injuries.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to ensure compliance with OSHA and company safety regulations.
  • Address safety concerns and incidents promptly, investigating root causes and implementing corrective measures.

 

Inventory and Resource Management

  • Ensure that all necessary materials, tools, and equipment are available for production, managing inventory levels as needed.
  • Collaborate with the materials and supply teams to ensure timely delivery of raw materials and components required for production.
  • Monitor production efficiency and resource utilization, identifying areas for cost reduction and waste minimization.

 

Reporting and Documentation

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of production activities, including output, downtime, and any incidents.
  • Document any production-related issues, including quality concerns or equipment failures, and ensure corrective actions are taken.
  • Continuous Improvement
  • Identify and recommend opportunities for process improvements to increase production efficiency, reduce waste, and improve quality.
  • Encourage team involvement in problem-solving and process improvement initiatives.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:                                           

Directly supervises hourly personnel on 12-hour shifts. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

 


Qualifications:

  • One year certificate from college or technical school and 3-months related experience and/or training; or 4-6 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Diplomacy interacting with both union and non-union groups.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, maintenance instructions.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram.
  • Experience improving and managing process improvements.
  • Problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and general computer skills.
  • Must be a motivated self-starter, and display a strong sense of urgency to maintain operational functionality with a strong focus on ensuring safe behaviours and plant conditions.
  • Familiarity with machinery, pneumatic and electrical equipment and experience in an industrial setting.

Summary/Job Scope:

 

Function as part of the leadership team to supervise and coordinate activities of workers engaged in operation of a cement production facility.

 

Key Job Responsibilities:

 

  • Achieves production, quality, environmental, safety, and efficiency goals. Acts as liaison with other departments when other staff is not present.
  • Confers with production personnel to resolve problems affecting production schedules; may be asked to prepare work schedules for the Production Department; assign replacements for employees' vacations.
  • Assign duties and examines work for conformance to policies and procedures including but not limited to the production rounds and inspections.
  • Studies and standardizes procedures to improve efficiency of subordinates; maintains harmony among workers.
  • Troubleshoots process and equipment problems to improve operation and material flow.
  • Identifies and lists order of importance for clean-up efforts and develops solutions for perpetual clean-up issues.
  • Report any safety or environmental issues; solve the problems or address them by work order.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations; resolve equipment problems; handle teamwork with crew.
  • Ability to make operational decisions during shift work hours; have discernment to know when to get management involved during shift hours; assess every situation for safety; understand what work needs to be assigned to whom.
