WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY
Summary and Job Scope:
Directs and coordinates activities of Production Department in processing materials, manufacturing and maintaining product uniformity and controlling cost within safety and environmental standards while adhering to company policies and industry regulations by performing the following duties personally or through subordinates.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

- Leads the plant Production Department to produce a high-quality product and meet or exceed production and efficiency goals including but not limited to equipment production rates, energy conservation, power and heat consumption targets, minimizing emission of greenhouse gases, and increasing profitability of the Company.

Member of the Energy Management Team NRG which is responsible for developing and structuring a program committed to using energy in the most cost-effective and environmentally-responsible manner possible.

Communicates plant/company goals to department employees in a clear and timely manner.

Provides leadership to department employees by directing, coaching, supporting, and delegating as the situation requires. Resolves worker grievances with the assistance of the Human Resources department.

Serves as a role model in the areas of leadership, teamwork, customer focus, continuous improvement, safety, and environmental stewardship to ensure alignment with the company’s vision and critical success factors.

Builds and maintain partnerships between plant departments and company peer groups.

Participates in business plan development and financial budget.

Establishes and defines short-term objectives for the department with logical sequenced action plans. Formulates or adjusts policy, anticipates problems and revises plans to account for changed circumstances.

Plans long-term (strategic) objectives and plant operational improvement projects preparing specifications and ensuring component parts fit overall project design.

Reviews production orders or schedules to ascertain product data such as types, quantities, and specifications of products and scheduled delivery dates in order to plan department operations.

Plans production operations, establishing priorities and sequences for manufacturing products.

Prepares operational schedules and coordinates manufacturing.

Reviews production and operating reports and resolves operational and manufacturing problems to ensure minimum costs and prevent operational delays.

Inspects machines and equipment to ensure specific operational performance and optimum utilization.

Develops or revises standard operational procedures and working practices.
-
Compiles, stores, and retrieves production data.
-
Solves problems creatively when dealing with the needs of customers and internal departments.

Finds ways to improve operational efficiency;

Devises new systems or procedures; Generates new solutions to production problems or problems with equipment.

Read, analyze, interpret and synthesize documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, technical procedures, business periodicals, professional journals, or governmental regulations.

Speak and deliver presentations effectively and persuasively on controversial or complex topics to employee groups, customers and management at all levels.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include overall direction, coordination, development, and evaluation of employees. Process Engineer, Kiln Coordinator, Mill Coordinator, Production Supervisors, and Packhouse/Shipping Supervisor report to this position directly. Hourly Control Room Operators, Assistant Control Room Operators, Utility and Labourers indirectly report to this position.
WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED
Required qualifications:

University degree (Engineering preferred); 4-6 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education.

Must be a motivated self-starter and display a strong sense of urgency to maintain operational functionality with a strong focus on ensuring safe behaviours and plant conditions.

Proven management and leadership skills.

Experience working in a heavy industry and union environment.
-
Diplomacy interacting with both union and non-union groups.

Strong organizational and time management skills.
-
Experience improving and managing process improvements.

Problem solving and decision-making skills.

Ability to calculate figures and amounts and apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry, such as percentages, proportions, area, circumference, and volume.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram format.

Experience with Project Planning software, Microsoft Office and general computer skills.

Familiarity with machinery, pneumatic and electrical equipment and experience in an industrial setting.

Valid Driver’s license and valid passport.

Summary/Job Scope:
Function as part of the leadership team to supervise and coordinate activities of workers engaged in operation of a cement production facility.
Key Job Responsibilities:
- Achieves production, quality, environmental, safety, and efficiency goals. Acts as liaison with other departments when other staff is not present.
- Confers with production personnel to resolve problems affecting production schedules; may be asked to prepare work schedules for the Production Department; assign replacements for employees' vacations.
- Assign duties and examines work for conformance to policies and procedures including but not limited to the production rounds and inspections.
- Studies and standardizes procedures to improve efficiency of subordinates; maintains harmony among workers.
- Troubleshoots process and equipment problems to improve operation and material flow.
- Identifies and lists order of importance for clean-up efforts and develops solutions for perpetual clean-up issues.
- Report any safety or environmental issues; solve the problems or address them by work order.
- Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations; resolve equipment problems; handle teamwork with crew.
- Ability to make operational decisions during shift work hours; have discernment to know when to get management involved during shift hours; assess every situation for safety; understand what work needs to be assigned to whom.
Qualifications:
- One year certificate from college or technical school and 3-months related experience and/or training; or 4-6 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Diplomacy interacting with both union and non-union groups.
- Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, maintenance instructions.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram.
