POSITION: Automation specialist

 

St-Marys Cement - McInnis Plant operates a state-of-the-art cement plant, with radiation throughout North America.

Under the responsibility of the electrical sector manager, the position of automation specialist will have the following responsibilities:

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Maintaining Safe, Clean and Well-organized Workplaces (5S);
  • Ensuring good workplace health and safety practices;
  • Ensure respect for the environment;
  • Manage the Autoload program and interface with our service provider (Process Solutions Limited);
  • Ensure a proper approach to the need and processing of IT and OT industrial information;
  • Programming and testing process-related operating interfaces (HMIs), as well as various types of automated devices;
  • Establish equipment, automates and control panels capacities;
  • Develop and maintain functional descriptions and schematics/automation/instrumentation (P&ID, PFD, etc.);
  • Develop diagnostics to correct problems or improve systems;
  • Addressing causes of instability and recurring issues;
  • Adjust control loops and operator interfaces;
  • Identify innovative pathways and execute continuous improvement projects;
  • Conduct statistical analysis and monitor process to detect and prevent deviations;
  • Plan and monitor testing;
  • Train employees on new procedures;
  • Ensure back-ups and safeguards on various servers;
  • Monitor system and network server protections;
  • Reviewing spare parts requirements (server, PLC, communication, memory card, etc.);
  • Ensure updating of network plans;
  • Participate in and manage commissioning and act as a resource person when required;
  • Perform all other related tasks.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, automated production or related field;
  • 1 to 3 years' industrial experience at process level;

OR

  • College diploma (DCS) in electrical engineering, combined with 2 to 5 years experience;
  • Basic knowledge of PLC and HMI programming (Allen Bradley / Siemens);
  • Basic electrical knowledge (power control) 24V, 120V, 600V, 4000V 14.6KV;
  • Office Software (MS Office);
  • Excellent knowledge of written and spoken French, bilingualism an asset;
  • Willing to travel as part of duties;
  • Valid, unrestricted driver's license;
  • Be a member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec or CEP or be in the process of becoming one.
