Summary/Job Scope:

The Quality Engineer is responsible for ensuring that the cement production process meets the highest quality standards. This role involves monitoring, testing, and analyzing production processes, raw materials, and finished products to ensure compliance with both internal and external specifications and regulations. The Quality Engineer will work closely with other departments to identify areas for improvement, reduce variations in production quality, and contribute to the continuous improvement efforts of the cement manufacturing process.

The Quality Engineer promotes a safe work environment and safe job performance by actively participating in all plant safety programs.

 

Key Job Responsibilities:

Quality Control & Testing

  • Conduct regular testing of raw materials, in-process materials, and finished cement products to ensure compliance with quality standards and specifications.
  • Perform chemical, physical, and mechanical tests on cement to measure properties like strength, fineness, and setting time.
  • Maintain accurate records of all tests, inspections, and analyses, documenting results and deviations from standards.
  • Ensure testing equipment is calibrated and maintained in compliance with industry standards.

Process Monitoring & Improvement

  • Monitor cement production processes to ensure that they are running within defined quality parameters and meet regulatory requirements.
  • Identify process variations and quality issues, working with production teams to troubleshoot and correct any problems.
  • Recommend improvements to production processes, materials, and equipment to enhance product quality and efficiency.
  • Support root cause analysis for quality issues and lead corrective actions.

Documentation & Reporting:

  • Prepare and maintain quality reports, including test results, process data, and quality performance metrics.
  • Ensure that all quality documentation is complete, accurate, and accessible for internal audits or external regulatory reviews.
  • Assist in the preparation of quality reports for management and external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies.

Compliance & Standards Adherence:

  • Ensure compliance with internal quality policies, ISO standards, and other relevant certifications (e.g., ASTM, EN).
  • Assist in the implementation and maintenance of quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001) and standards across the production process.
  • Conduct internal audits of the quality management system and assist with external audits as required.

Education and/or Experience                                                  

Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Chemistry or related curriculum; plus, three to five years related experience and/or training including working knowledge of an International Quality Assurance-like system/program; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Experience with XRF, XRD and analysis applied in cement process environments is desired.

Language Skills                                                              

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, etc.

Mathematical Skills                                                     

Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

 

Reasoning Ability                                                          

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Computer Skills:                                                            

Should have knowledge of Access Database software; Maximo, PI and basic Experts Software (QCX, Foxboro, Linkman) Manufacturing and Lab software; Intermediate Excel Spreadsheet software and Intermediate Word Processing software.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: ISO or other Quality System/Standard certification.  CSA or CCIL Laboratory Technician Certification a plus.
