Summary/Job Scope:

Reporting directly to the Maintenance Manager, this position promotes the use of protective and preventative maintenance systems and techniques to improve plant operating equipment and system liability.

Key Job Responsibilities:

Directs and supervises hourly employees engaged in repairing, dismantling, assembling, and installing industrial equipment as required.

  • Ensures the safety of employees through enforcing safe work practices and providing motivation and effective communication.
  • Ensures that all technical training and development requirements are met for employees, including conducting routine toolbox/tailgate safety talks.
  • Reviews individual employee performance and coaches, provides feedback and recognition to maintain a high level of professionalism.
  • Administers the collective bargaining agreement and maintains a strong relationship with the Union by effectively managing routine daily issues, employee concerns, disciplinary action, handling grievances, etc.
  • Manages vacation schedules and work time allocation for correct payroll and with work orders.
  • Provides guidance to the Maintenance Planners to set job priorities.
  • Ensures that technical specifications and special instructions are available, understood and adhered to by craftsmen for assigned jobs in a timely manner.
  • Executes the approved work schedule and ensures quality work by field verification.
  • Participate in the shared on-call rotation for supervisory staff in the department.

 

Responsible for optimizing the performance of plant equipment.

  • Troubleshoots any equipment and/or machinery malfunctions to determine root cause(s) and develops corrective action plans to rectify the problems. Updates existing plant maintenance and preventative maintenance systems.
  • Consults with suppliers, as necessary.
  • Maintains accountability and ensures serviceability and availability of company owned tools and ensures that all maintenance vehicles and work areas are kept clean and safe.
  • Provides detailed feedback regarding equipment condition and reliability improvements.
  • Assists in the maintenance and purchase of parts inventory and outside services as required.
  • Records and analyzes data to determine mechanical problems.
  • Evaluates cost reduction opportunities; introduces new preventative maintenance technology programs and ensures these programs meet manufacturer, company, and industry standards.

Other operational duties include:

  • Participates in preparation of annual budget and ensures adherence during the year.
  • Responds to and completes emergency work.
  • Supervises and directs maintenance contractors working on the plant site as required.
  • Ensure maintenance work orders are completed with craftsmen’s comments and completed on a timely basis.
  • Participates in activities of the predictive maintenance team and work towards the continuous improvement of maintenance KPIs.
  • Participate in daily and weekly planning meetings.
  • Ensures all materials used on jobs are properly charged to the correct work order.
  • Provides technical assistance to operation groups.
  • Provides input for the development of equipment Bills of Materials.

Qualifications:

Education: Two-year college or technical school; plus, one to two years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience: Two years supervisory experience, preferably in an industrial environment.

Knowledge: Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Salary Range: $ 85,000 to $ 106,000
