Summary/Job Scope:

 

Oversees and directs the electrical maintenance department through efficiencies in operations, inventory control, and effective supervision and team building of hourly employees. 

 

Must have a high level of industrial troubleshooting/analytical skills with a demonstrated ability in a power or control analysis situation that includes: an ability to collect factual field data using the tools of the electrical trade, an ability to diagnose the power or process control in each situation and an ability to draw valid conclusions aimed at improvement, maintenance or correction of situations.

 

Required to carry a phone after regular working hours and be available to provide off-hours plant support for emergencies.

 

Promote a safe work environment and safe job performance by actively participating in all plant safety programs.

 

Key Job Responsibilities:

Safety & Compliance

  • Enforce plant and corporate electrical safety polices, LOTO procedures, and PPE requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with national, state and local electrical codes.
  • Conduct and document safety meetings, risk assessments, and job hazards analyses.

Maintenance Planning & Execution

  • Develop and oversee preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance of all electrical and instrumentation assets including MCC's, VFDs, PLCs, switchgear, substations and power distribution.
  • Schedule, assign and supervise daily maintenance tasks and shutdown work.
  • Coordinate activities of the electrical department with mechanical, production, automation departments and sub-contractors to minimize downtime.
  • Review and update plant maintenance schedules, maintenance logs, and CMMS data.

Equipment Reliability & Troubleshooting.

  • Lead advanced troubleshooting of electrical and automation failures.
  • Identify recurring issues and engineer permanent solutions.
  • Monitor equipment health using tools such as thermography, megger testing, PdMA, vibration correlations, harmonics checked, and power quality analysis.

Team Leadership & Development.

  • Direct and mentor electricians, technicians, and contractors.
  • Assist in developing and executing technical training programs for skill development within the department.
  • Verify work quality and conduct performance reviews and competency evaluation.

Supervise Critical Equipment & Systems.

  • Medium and low voltage switchgear up to 4160 vac.
  • Power distribution transformers and substations.
  • Plant MCCs, soft starters, VFDs, motors, UPS systems, and generator backups.
  • Kiln, raw mill, cement mills, baghouses, and material handling system.

Qualifications:

  • Be capable of overseeing electrical projects from inception to commissioning, including concept evaluation, design, estimate, installation and commissioning of process/electrical equipment.
  • Strong knowledge of industrial power systems and cement manufacturing equipment. Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, single lines, and P&IDs. Proficient with CMMS, PLC/HMI basics, VFDs, and power quality diagnostics. Leadership, communication, and analytical problem-solving skills.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of SAP and control logix PCS7 software, Excel spreadsheet software and Word processing software as well as programming skills in Advanced PLC programming and specialized machine controls.

 

Education and/or Experience                                                  

  • Two-year college or technical school; plus, one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Meet the requirements of a Journeyman Electrician license and willingness to pursue Master Electrician license.

Salary Range: $ 85,000 - $106,000
