Job purpose:
The Shift Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the daily operations of the cement production process during their assigned shift. This role ensures that production targets are met efficiently, safely, and in compliance with quality standards. The supervisor is responsible for leading the team, monitoring equipment performance, and implementing process improvements to optimize productivity and reduce downtime. Additionally, the Shift Supervisor is accountable for maintaining a safe work environment and adhering to all regulatory and company policies.
Key Job Functions:
- To provide leadership to department employees by directing, coaching, supporting and delegating as the situation requires.
- To serve as a role model in the areas of leadership, teamwork, customer focus, continuous improvement, safety, and environmental stewardship to ensure alignment with the company’s vision and critical success factors.
- To continually develop employees' understanding of the cement manufacturing process.
- To promote safe work practices and provide resources to assure that equipment and personnel operate in a safe manner.
- To promote environmental awareness and assure that equipment is operated in alignment with plant environmental goals.
- To establish and meet production and efficiency goals.
- To coordinate the department activities with other departments to minimize downtime, make efficient use of manpower and eliminate recurrent problems.
Know How:
- College Diploma or University Degree in related discipline, or experience equivalent, and asset.
- Minimum 4-6 years supervisory experience and/or training required.
- Previous experience or knowledge of mining, cement manufacturing and blasting training, such as mining, kiln operation, process control, etc. an asset.
- Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office, programming and SAP.
- Previous mechanical experience or aptitude an asset.
- Previous experience dealing with health, safety & environmental legislation/regulations preferred.
- Strong communication and presentation skills and the ability to effectively interact with all levels of management.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
Problem Solving:
Reports directly to Operations Manager; fundamental knowledge and experience in Root Cause Analysis and Statistical Reasoning required; compliant to company policies and procedures.
Variable situations requiring analytical, interpretative, evaluative, and/or constructive thinking.
Accountability:
The role has some autonomy but is subject to routine plant involvement due to the nature of the work in order to achieve desired outcomes for the plant as this role is highly supportive of other roles within the plant organization.
