Job Purpose

The Senior Electrical Engineer will be responsible for overseeing the electrical systems and equipment within the cement plant. This role involves ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and safety of all electrical operations, as well as leading projects to improve and upgrade electrical infrastructure.  This position will report to the plant Electrical Maintenance Manager and will work closely with the corporate and plant reliability team.

 

 

Key Job Functions

 

  • Design, develop, and maintain effective maintenance programs for electrical systems and equipment for the cement plant.
  • Work jointly with the local plant electricians and electrotechnicians to conduct regular inspections and preventive maintenance of electrical systems to ensure optimal performance.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve electrical issues promptly to minimize downtime.
  • Lead and manage electrical projects, including upgrades and new installations.
  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines, plant personnel and corporate groups to ensure seamless operations.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations and standards.
  • Provide technical support and training to junior engineers and maintenance staff.
  • Provide assistance to the Electrical Maintenance Manager to prepare and manage budgets for electrical projects and maintenance activities.
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in electrical engineering and implement best practices.

 

 

 

KNOW HOW

 

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in electrical engineering, preferably in the cement or heavy manufacturing industry.
  • Strong knowledge of medium voltage electrical systems, controls, and instrumentation.
  • Proven experience in project management and leading maintenance teams.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in using computer software and tools.  Knowledge of SAP PM preferred.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and standards related to electrical engineering.
  • Experience with PdMA or any other motor current analysis system.
  • Experience with large synchronous motors or wound rotor motors.
  • Team player, can work autonomously.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English.

 

 

PROBLEM SOLVING

 

This role requires a very high level of thinking and problem-solving skills.  The role is supported by a vast network of procedures, references, strategies and technical network (plants and corporate).

 

The problems faced will range from basic to very complex but conform to standard heavy industrial equipment.

This position will have a high level of autonomy in establishing or proposing new processes, solutions, improvements or other actions to achieve the plant required results.  These will need to conform to corporate and company policies and regulations.  All these will be validated and monitored by the Electrical Maintenance Manager.

 

This position operates within the electrical maintenance budget which is managed and controlled by the Electrical Maintenance Manager.
