Summary/Job Scope:

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Mechanical Engineering Co-op Student to join our mechanical engineering team for an upcoming work term. This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic and collaborative environment, working on real-world projects that contribute to our product development and operational efficiency.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the inspection, maintenance, and troubleshooting of mechanical equipment such as kilns, conveyors, crushers, and pumps.
  • Assist in the design, development, and testing of mechanical components and systems.
  • Support CAD modeling, drafting, and documentation using tools such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD.
  • Conduct research and analysis to support engineering decisions.
  • Support reliability engineering initiatives including vibration analysis, lubrication programs, and failure root cause analysis.
  • Participate in mechanical design and drafting using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks).
  • Help develop and update preventive maintenance procedures and documentation.
  • Contribute to plant improvement projects focused on safety, efficiency, and sustainability.
  • Collaborate with operations, electrical, and instrumentation teams to support cross-functional projects.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed and assist in preparing technical reports.
  • Assist in the management of contractor/vendor services during plant shut down.
  • Perform administrative tasks such as management of office supplies.
  • Ensures the safety of themselves and all colleagues through enforcing safe work practices and providing motivation and effective communication.

Qualifications:

  • Enrolled in a Mechanical Engineering undergraduate program at a recognized Canadian institution.
  • Completion of 1-2 years of study preferred.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems and industrial equipment.
  • Proficiency in CAD software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding industrial environment.
  • Ability to work well in a team and independently.
  • Safety-conscious with a willingness to learn and follow plant protocols.

 

Note: This role is temporary for a maximum period of up to 1 year, with requirement where student must work at least 35 hours for a minimum of 12 weeks. The position is based out of Bowmanville, Ontario.

 

Please note that the Bowmanville site is not easily accessible via public transit. Student will need to ensure transport to and from the plant in line with agreed schedule.

Hourly Rate: $25 per hour.
