WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY?

The purpose of this role is to manage the overall safety program for site operations by developing and carrying out procedures with the line organization that effectively control accident and health exposures in the company.  You will be responsible for providing subject matter expertise, guidance, proactive leadership and solutions to facilitate safe and reliable operations while acting as a change leader, educator, advocate, consultant and driver of continuous improvement for the safety culture at Bowmanville Cement Plant. Strong leadership, organizational, analytical and communication skills as well as the ability to multitask are a must. This role works closely with operational leadership, with an H&S Coordinator reporting to it.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

Accountabilities:

  • Develop, implement and maintain safety procedures and programs necessary to improve effectiveness through motivating people
  • Confer with production managers to assist in specific clarification of details associated with safety process
  • Identify opportunities for improvement, follow up on corrective actions
  • Develop and deliver safety training to employees, supervisors, and plant management to support developed programs. Communicate policies and procedure and train staff on their contents
  • Execute direct process changes in conjunction with production managers to maintain a safe, healthy workplace at the plant
  • Report and investigate safety issues to ensure compliance with legal, and company policies in Ontario
  • Support internal stakeholders by serving as subject matter expert and by interpreting regulations, providing information to address a customer’s needs and provide guidance in the development of programs and policy
  • Monitors adherence to safety program policies and procedures in the plant and reports discrepancies to plant management, lead continuous improvement and support the implementation and maintenance of the Safety Guidelines as employed in the division
  • Managing the Workers Compensation program and workplace insurance cost to ensure timely reporting and reducing costs related to workplace injuries

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED? 

  • 10+ years related experience and/or training with experience in MOL, MTO and WSIB, OSHA/ MSHA and DOT regulations preferred
  • Previous experience managing people and safety programs in heavy industry (mining, building materials, construction, transportation, or other hazardous industries) is a must
  • In-depth knowledge of Provincial and State regulations
  • Exceptional communication skills in English
