WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY?

As a member of the VCNA Safety Team the incumbent will support the safety process at all business units: Cement, Aggregates and Ready-Mix in the US. Working with various team members, the Safety Coordinator (Graduate Program) will work on short term projects and visit various sites to contribute to our overall safety performance. Works with various leaders and teams to develop management and leadership skills.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

Includes the following; other duties may be assigned as required.

  • Safety Administration, including: - Collect injury /accident info and record data continuously/monthly for Safety Pyramid and Summary across North America. Use data to update OSHA 300 Logs for year end - Schedule D&A Testing with Ops Managers and Dispatch to meet the FMCSR requirements. Schedule RTW Evaluations/Pre-Employment DOT exams for employees to RTW after a non-work-related injury.
  • Authorize DOT Recertification/Initial injury and post incident D&A test
  • VCNA policy and program development, including: monthly safety package, alerts, posters and other safety material
  • Conduct workplace inspections at various sites to identify and eliminate hazards
  • Special projects

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED?

  • Bachelor's degree /diploma from a Technical school or University
  • One to two years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience in heavy industry (Cement, mining, oil & gas)
  • Working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Legislation
  • Highly motivated, with a demonstrated passion for safety excellence and taking initiative
  • Team player with the ability to work independently
  • Ability to work under pressure: respect deadlines, high expectations
  • Strong organization, time management, and attention to detail
  • Ability to travel
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
  • Knowledge of MS Office, PI, SAP and Ariba
