Summary/Job Scope:
The Assistant Laboratory Technician will support the laboratory operations at a plant by conducting various tests and analyses to ensure the quality and consistency of cement products. This role involves working closely with senior technicians and engineers to maintain laboratory equipment, prepare samples, and document results. The position requires a detail-oriented individual with a strong understanding of laboratory procedures and safety protocols.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collect and prepare cement samples for testing according to established protocols.
- Perform routine tests on cement samples, including chemical, physical, and mechanical tests, to assess quality and compliance with industry standards.
- Accurately record test results and maintain detailed laboratory records.
- Assist in the maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment to ensure accurate and reliable test results.
- Adhere to all laboratory safety procedures and guidelines to maintain a safe working environment.
- Support quality control initiatives by identifying and reporting any deviations from standard procedures or results.
- Work collaboratively with senior technicians, engineers, and other plant personnel to ensure smooth laboratory operations.
- Ensures the safety of themselves and all colleagues through enforcing safe work practices and providing motivation and effective communication.

Qualifications:
- University Degree or College Diploma in Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related field.
- Previous experience in a laboratory setting, preferably within a cement, construction or manufacturing industry preferred.
- Proficiency in laboratory techniques and equipment.
- Advanced chemistry, math and computer skills required.
- Advanced computer literacy and knowledge of Microsoft Office an asset.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with team members, other departments, and external contractors
Note: This role is unionized and may require shift work.

Hourly Rate: $32.64 - $43.52 (as per CBA)
